BLOOD REMOVAL

Blood is essential for human life. When a traumatic accident or crime takes place the blood left behind is a biohazard that contains pathogens that if not handled and cleaned up properly can transmit diseases. When an accident, suicide, crime, or traumatic event occurs it must be cleaned and disinfected properly or the biomaterial will begin to decompose, maggots and flies will be attracted and a strong odor will emanate.

Who Takes Care of the Unattended Death Cleanup?

Death cleanup needs to be handled by trained and licensed professionals.  All body fluids and tissue are considered biohazard materials and must be handled and disposed of according to strict regulation and protocol mandated by the California Department of Public Health.  Bio-One SoCal has a Trauma Scene Waste Management Practitioners license and can legally cleanup, transport and dispose of the biohazard waste resulting from a death cleanup.

What Happens When a Body Is Undiscovered?
In hot weather it can take a mere 12 hours for a body to start decomposing. When the weather is cold and the room is closed, it can take longer, around 48-72 hours. Usually flies will find their way to the bodily fluids, lay their eggs, which will develop into larva and feed on the organic matter. Undiscovered death results in biohazard material that is left after the body has been removed. Typically a terrible odor sets in and affects everything in the area. The first step is to remediate the remaining biohazards followed by removing affected items that have absorbed the odor. Lastly, an odor removal system is implemented to remove the remaining odor in the air and hard surfaces.

TEARGAS & FECES/URINE CLENAUP *

What we call Tear Gas is actually not gas at all but a fine powder or oil based vapors. Cleaning the residue might be more complicated than what you thought. There are about 15 products on the market that can go under the tear gas category. Even though the chemical compounds used in these products are different they all produce tearing, sneezing, coughing and temporary blindness. The most common tear gas used in the U.S. goes under the acronym CS, CR and CN. The substance that is used determines the way we perform the cleanup.

Types of Tear Gas
Tear gas contains a chemical compounds that irritates the mucous membranes. The types of tear gas are:
CS – At room temperature this gas is not actually gas but a fine powder aerosolized to produce a cloud in the air that is inhaled by the targets. The residue sinks into all objects around the incident such as clothing, backpacks, furniture, upholstery and curtains.
CN – Is known as Mace works very effectively at close range. The CN is dispersed with an oily substance, which causes it to stick to skin and other surfaces.
CR – Is a pale yellow solid in the form of fine powder that is suspended in liquid and dispersed into the air. CR can stay active on surfaces for up to 2 months and must be properly cleaned.
Knowing which one was used can help with the cleanup.
Tear Gas Clean Up
After an indoor space was contaminated with tear gas, a remediation is necessary to reverse or stop further health or environmental damage. All Bio-One staff wear protective gear when entering a space that was affected by tear gas. That includes a full-face respirator and biohazard suit. We remove the tear gas residue by vacuuming the area thoroughly with an industrial grade vacuum. Home vacuums will simply not work because the fine dust will escape the filters and be redistributed again into the air, causing more tearing and coughing. Washing everything with large amounts of water, especially when CS is involved can make the effect even worse. Remove carpets, upholstery and cloth based furniture. Hard surfaces are cleaned and disinfected. Everything that can be moved outside should taken out and cleaned, watching for downdraft.
SEWAGE BACKUPS & ODOR REMOVAL *

Proper inspection, remediation and disinfection are all phases to properly cleanup a sewage spill to ensure your safety.

Sewage Backups sometimes start as gurgling sounds in the plumbing or a constant faint sound of running water and sometimes you begin to smell a foul odor when you run your water or flush the toilet.

When the raw sewage backs up into the house or floods the bathrooms, it not only smells and ruins your floor and carpet, but it also presents a real health hazard. When a sewer line backs up in a house or a building it is an unwanted collection of a variety of sewer lines from multiple homes and businesses that contains bacteria and possibly disease and virus based contaminates.

Using an extractor and household disinfectant are not effective to ensure that the area is free of health hazards. Sewer water can travel under flooring, be absorbed into the walls and seep inside appliances.

Sewage Backups Cleanup is Done in 4 Stages
  1. Sewage water and debris needs to be extricated. This has to be done with special equipment and transported to an approved site.
  2. Removing and disposing of any absorbent materials that came in contact with the sewage. That includes carpets and furniture. In some cases, walls are also included in the absorbent materials. All debris must be bagged correctly since it is consider biohazard.
  3. Power washers, disinfectants and brushes are used for sewage cleanup.
  4. Structural drying and dehumidification.

RODENT DROPPINGS CLEANUP
Rodent droppings are not a laughing matter or something you should vacuum up without further disinfection. If you find rodent droppings chances are good that rodent urine and saliva are also most likely present and the animal is also likely to return.

Recently in Southern California rodents and their feces were found to carry the Hantavirus, an infection that cause people to get Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) which can be a fatal respiratory disease caused by rodents.

Rodent feces in attics often infect the insulation and ductwork that can quickly spread Hantavirus throughout your home. Scurrying noises from the attic or when you enter your garage are a clear indication that rodents have taken residence in your home. Rodents also cause significant damage to stored items by gnawing on fabrics, food containers and even electrical cables. To further exacerbate the issue, the nests and droppings of the rodents become favorite breeding sites for insects that can carry their own diseases into you house.

Health Risks of Rodent Droppings
  • Hantavirus – As was seen recently in San Diego County and across Southern California. Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome is a sometimes-fatal respiratory disease in humans caused by rodents.
  • Bubonic Plague – Is not yet eradicated and spread by the bite of a rodent infected flea.
  • Salmonellosis – Food poisoning through consumption of contaminated food caused by rodents and feces.
  • Rat-Bite Fever – RBF is spread by infected rodents or consuming food contaminated by them.
